Thomas's Time in El Salvador

 Tue 2/23/2010 Hola familia I did get to go see some ruins today in a town called Chalchuapa and i took a lot of photos. But first i need to buy a cable for the camera to download the pictures first but ill send the pictures when i get the camera working. And Emily, i did buy something there i bought a jade necklace for only three dollars. The weather here in Santa Tecla is actually not bad at all it feels exactly like Oregon in the summer it is hot but its nothing too terrible. But apparently it's going to get a whole lot worse in about a month or two when the rainy season starts so I'm just bracing myself for that. Oh and Elder Ayala and I are doing a lot better. The secret for me was definitely humility because really if there is contention between you and your companion the work can go forward and what i had to realize is that even if my companion was doing things wrong i couldn't tell him that, i just had to sit there, show him respect, and BE HUMBLE!  Mon 2/15/2010 I finally got the package all right and it came last Monday or the Friday before that. The zone leaders go to the mission office every Tuesday to pick up mail for the rest of the missionaries. The chocolate and candy was really good and I gave some of it to the other elders in our house as Valentines, but I'm probably just going to eat most of them ... haha. American candy is really expensive here, it's like 2 dollars for one bar of the Hershey's Cookies and Creme chocolate bars. Anyway I'm doing fine with the food, and my tan is coming back really fast too! But you don't need to send me dried fruit or vitamins, because I can buy those things here. I'm eating everything that is put in front of me, which is not really that much of a problem because the food here isn't that different. The Papusas are really good though. They are like a tortilla (by the way the tortillas here are really thick here) and they stick beans and cheese inside the torti...

 Mon 2/8/2010 Ho la! So this is actually my second attempt at writing this e-mail. I wrote the whole thing up, and then the computer just broke on me so I had to start all over again. I only have like 20 minutes so but I have make this fast. I received the Valentines Day package, thanks mom! ... It's still at the mission office though, so Elder Locken and Elder Alguilar are going to pick it up tomorrow. Yes, I did hear about David. Tennessee huh? I wouldn't care where I was going, 12 weeks is way too long to be in the MTC for. The MTC is a great place but I just wanted nothing more that to get out after 8 weeks! I'm glad though for him, he's going to have a good time, and he'll get to talk to Dan and Marjorie again too. My stomach has finally settled down. The food here is really good but really different and my stomach knows it too. Hopefully we are going to go to a grocery store called "Hyper Pais" where I'll buy lots of American food next P-Day.  Mon 2/1/2010 Hey everyone, it was great to hear from youI It's always great to hear how things are going on back  there. So Ethan and Dad went hunting huh, did they get anything, and how was the car show? I miss  that because that was always one of the best conventions that were in Portland. I haven't seen any  Walmarts yet, there aren't any in my area, but hopefully i will get to see some eventually. They do  have a fairly large grocery store here that has other stuff. It is called "Super Selectos" and they  have everything I think I will need, but what I've really been craving is American foodI So I had  pancakes everyday this week and that helped my stomach.
