I'm finally really here!

Hey everyobody im finally "really" here. I here in my first area called
Santa Tecla or Nueva San Salvador. its in the city that is kind of a
suberb of San Salvador to the west. The city is sooo crazy! The busses
that we take to get to the different places of the city are ... i dont
know how to describe them. most of them are old school busses
imported from the US, and then decorated like an Indian persons Taxi
cab its crazy. And they drive them like maniacs they cut people off and
half of them dont have any exhaust system so they sound like dirt
bikes half the time. and then there are other buses that are smaller
made by toyota and they are even more crazy. they shove as many
people as they can into these tiny buses and then they absolutely fly
through the streets! and they have spoilers on everything down here.
Im pretty sure the word tacky doesnt exist here in englsih or spanish.
Also another funny thing is that every house here hose razor wire
going along the top of there houses and if your a more wealthy person
you have two rows. it is so crazy. When i gopt here i was Ii ke wow ... is
this the ghetto or what because they had the razor wire and then they
have security guards on most of the blocks with sawed off shotguns
that are privately hired to guard most of the buildings. But what i did
like about the city is that everybody drives mitsubishi monteros (a lot
of the new ones too), 4 door deisel rangers, and a different kind of
toyota truck called the Hilux and they are all deisel, everything here is
deisel!
But the people are super nice which really surprised me even though
some of them have next to nothing they dress very clean cut and are
more than happy to talk to us. But at least from my experiences they
dont' t like to be committed to anything. So when we are teaching them
they are more than happy to I isten to us but they dont want to do
anything about it. so we've been working with the members quite a bit. Just visiting them
and trying to gain their trust. The first day i got to the area we had
an appointment with a lady named Gloria and her nephew Alexis.

He just got back from his mission in Guatemala so we've been
having him come with us whenever we teach her and we had a
baptisimal date for her this Saturday but we don't think that she isn't

then she said she didn't want to go yesterday just because. So that was
a real red flag so we tried going over to her house after church but
she was the only one home so we couldn't come in. We are going over
again later tonight to see what happened. But there this one member
that we do have in our ward that is super nice though he reminds me so
much of brother Reidy its not even funny his name is Hermano Tadeo
and he came over to us on Sunday to talk to us and he said that his
neighbor has a swollen prostate and would like a blessing so we are
going over there on Wednesday to go and give him a blessing and teach
him a lesson. So hopefully that will go over well. But its going pretty
good here so far hopeful! We are going to have alot more success. My
companion's name is Elder Palmer his is from northern Washington just
east of Seattle. I know right two gringo missionaries serving together.
but he's a nice guy and then we are living with the zone leaders in our
house too their names are Elder Alguilar and Elder Locken. Elder
Alguilar is from Honduras and then Elder Locken is from huntington
beach California. so there are three gringos in one house so Elder
Alguilar now calls the house La Casa Blanca but then i suggested to him
that we call it Casablanca. so I can say now that i live in Casablanca.
That's enough about here anyway. So Ethan has the swine flu .. ouch!
sorry about that. I got the vaccination in the MTC so hopefully i wont
have to worry about that. however the El Salvadorian food is intense to
say the least! it tastes good and everything but it is really hard on my
stomach. In the city here there is Pizza Hut, Wendy's, and Burger
King. so ill probably get some American food this week. Anyway.
Oh and yeah mom the address that you have is the right one and I don't think that you'll need to put the
catholic stickers on there because it just goes straight to the mission office and then they bring
it by are house (which is according to my companion the best house in the mission because its the
only one with hot water which means it has an electric heater attached to the faucet but the water
is still really dirty so we still have to drink and brush our teeth with bottled water. But the
language is coming along really good I am able to participate in all the lessons but i have a long
ways to go. The people here talk really fast, not as fast as Mexicans but they mumble to so it's
really hard to understand. From what I've seen the better Spanish that you speak says how much money
that you have. But the weather here isn't too bad it is hot that's for sure but its not unbearable,
and I'm already starting to get my tan back.
But I'm really good to hear that all is going well up there and i hope that keeps up. Ill have some
more pictures to send you all next week i haven't been taking my camera around because i didn't want
it to get stolen. Oh and i will definitely send David an email. poor guy ten weeks is a long time
in the MTC.
Anyway id better get going i have to go buy food. I love you guys so much its such a blessing for
me to know that i have a great family back home supporting me it makes thing a lot easier here.
